HELP NEEDED! To ensure that we are completely moved out of our current building by the end of August, we are having a moving out morning on Saturday, August 16th from 9:00 – noon. If you can assist, you are requested to place your name on the volunteer list in the lower lobby. Please contact Bernie Veltkamp or Andy deBeer if you have any questions.

Saskatoon Christian School Board has approved our request to use the school premises for our worship services after we have moved out of the current church building. In order to have this building vacant by September 1st, our last service here will be on August 24th.

PEWS FOR SALE: The congregation that has purchased this church building is not interested in keeping the pews. The Building Committee is attempting to sell the pews as a whole unit. However, if this is not successful, the pews will be sold on an individual basis. If you are interested in purchasing a pew, the 8 foot pews will sell for $75 each, and the 14 foot pews will sell for $100 each. Please let Bernie Veltkamp know if you are interested and your name will be placed on a list – first come first served.

PASTOR’S NOTE: As you are aware August 24 will be our last day of services in this building. The morning service will be a “special” service filled with joy, celebration, tears, and pain. I am planning on finishing the Catechism that morning with the last couple of LORD’s Day and focusing on the conclusion of the LORD’s Prayer. The afternoon service is going to be a hymn sing. If you have a favourite hymn or song, please let me know.

POSITION AVAILABLE: Covenant
CRC in Edmonton is looking for a full-time Director of Youth and Education. If you are still reading this you will want to know that to fill this position you will be able to relate to young people (as well as adults) and understand the pulse of youth culture. You will have a heart to disciple, mentor, and develop leaders as well as volunteers within the church to assist with youth ministry and education for all ages. You will assist the congregation in its vision and mission as you equip, support and expand our congregation’s education program. You will develop and direct the implementation of programs to reach out and create relationships with the youth with the goal
of enfolding them in the church. Seminary training or equivalent is considered an asset. Should you have questions about Covenant and the position you can contact John Leder, Chair of Council, at the email address below. If you are interested in being part of our ministry team, enjoy equipping others for effective ministry, and desire to see young people grow in Christ-likeness, please apply with resume to John Leder, Chair of Council, john.leder@supremesteel.com.

CRWM INTERNATIONAL PRAYER CONCERNS: Seven people were arrested last month in Yemen for promoting Christianity. Yemeni security forces arrested seven Christians, reportedly including some American citizens. The group was arrested for promoting Christianity and distributing Bibles. One of those arrested included Hadni Dohni, also accused of converting to Christianity, which is a capital offence under Islamic law. More recent reports indicate that the group continues to be held. Pray that Yemeni authorities will neither mistreat nor torture the Christians and that they will be

released soon; pray that the Spirit will comfort and encourage the group; pray that the voices of moderation will win out over more radical voices to stem religious persecution throughout the country.

WORLD MISSIONS - Finding Peace: In a recent visit to her husband’s Nigerian Muslim village, a shy and quiet Christian woman took a step of courage in sharing how a household can receive peace. The first step? – burning all of the amulets and charms. The second step is asking for forgiveness from Isa Almasihu – Jesus Christ. Please pray for this believer, and that the message she shares will find open hearts.

Who brings good news, good news.

Announcing peace, proclaiming news of happiness,

Our God reigns, our God reigns.

Our God reigns! Our God reigns! Our God reigns! Our God reigns!

He had no stately form, He had no majesty, that we should be drawn

                                                                                    to Him.

    He was despised, and we took no account of Him;

yet now He reigns with the Most High.

Now He reigns, now He reigns, now He reigns with the Most High.

It was our sin and guilt that bruised and wounded Him. It was our sin

that brought Him down.

When we like sheep had gone astray, our Shepherd came and on His

                shoulders bore our shame.

On His shoulders, on His shoulders, on His shoulders He bore our

                        shame.

Meek as a lamb that’s led out to the slaughterhouse

Just as a sheep before its shearer, His life ran down upon the ground

like pouring rain that we might be born again.

That we might be, that we might be, that we might be born again.

Out from the tomb He came with grace and majesty –

He’s alive! He’ s alive!

God loves us so, see here His hands, His feet, His side.

Yes, we know He’s alive.

He’s alive, He’s alive, He’s alive. He is alive.

REQUESTED ANNOUNCEMENTS

HELP NEEDED! To ensure that we are completely moved out of our current building by the end of August, we are having a moving out morning on Saturday, August 16th from 9:00 – noon. If you can assist, you are requested to place your name on the volunteer list in the lower lobby. Please contact Bernie Veltkamp or Andy deBeer if you have any questions.

PEWS FOR SALE – the congregation that has purchased this church building is not interested in keeping the pews.

BRIDAL SHOWER: There will be a “triple shower” on July 30th at 7 p.m. for Sheena (Gerard Dykstra’s fiancé, son of John Dykstra and Mary Dykstra), Candice
(Fiancé of Jarret Mosterd, son of Doreen and Peter Mosterd), and Briana Friesen (daughter of Fred and Anita Friesen). Jarret, Gerard and Briana are baptized members of our congregation, and therefore we would like to extend a Christian hand and throw them a shower. This will be an anything goes shower (no theme). Pauline Denie and Ineke Rekman will host this shower. Questions, please contact Pauline Denie at 343-8995 or Ineke Rekman at 384-5198.

ATTENTION ALL YOUTH: Everyone who is going into Grades 9, 10, 11 or 12 is asked to keep the weekend of September 5-7 free! We have Redberry Camp booked to kickoff the 2008/09 youth group year. More information to come!

GROCERY STORE CARDS: Orders for July will be placed tomorrow, so if you have not yet ordered your cards for the month, please do so Today! Cheques can be made out to Bethel CRC Social Committee and can be given to Elaine Pruim. If you are having problems remembering to order, you may preorder for each month and write out post dated cheques. Thanks to all who are supporting this fundraiser!

MOVING PREPARATIONS: Our time in this building is coming to a close very soon. In preparation for our August 31 departure, many things have to be done. Various committees and groups have been notified to begin the process of packing up their supplies. This will begin shortly. Upstairs there is a table of books, mostly Dutch. If you have any interest in taking them, please do so. If not, they will be recycled.

COUNCIL TRAINING: On November 21 and 22 we will be having a council training seminar at the church. Professor Darwin Glassford from Calvin Theological Seminary will be attending to lead the training session. The plan is for Professor Glassford to train youth leaders on Friday night (he is a youth ministry professor) and the elders on Saturday morning. There will also be representatives from Diaconal Ministries Canada who will train deacons on Saturday morning. On Sunday, Professor Glassford will preach. What we need are some people to help in the organization for this weekend: for meals, coffee break, billets, and welcoming. We will be sending invitations to the churches of Classis Alberta North and Alberta South/Saskatchewan and probably to the churches in Winnipeg. This could make for a lot of people who will need places to stay on Friday night. If you are interested in helping to organize this event, please leave a note in Pastor Richard’s box.

FROM THE CARETAKER: Please check the lost and found box TODAY for anything that might belong to you. Whatever is left will be disposed of this evening.

PASTOR’S NOTE: The Bodini family is on vacation until July 22. If you require pastoral assistance, please contact one of the elders. See you in a few weeks.
G8 countries include Germany, France, Britain, Italy, Japan, the U.S., Canada, and Russia. Rising food and fuel costs around the globe could lead to an additional 105 million people, including 30 million in Africa, falling below the poverty line. Pray that richer nations will be faithful to their commitments to giving aid to the poor; pray for more just trade practices and a commitment to developing sustainable support systems.

NEW BUILDING UPDATE

It has now been confirmed that Courts of Praise Four Square Gospel Church has purchased the building. Based on recent discussions with them, they would like to take possession at the end of our lease period which is August 31st. Those of you who have been to the site of our new church building are aware that there have been construction delays. The most current obstacle is the completion of the in-floor heating. Until that is completed, the concrete floor cannot be poured and, therefore, no interior work can start. While part of the delay is due to the inaccessibility of the site because of the heavy rain, we are also at the mercy of the company installing the system, competing for a scarce labor pool.

Your committee believes that it must plan for an interim location to hold our church services until such time that the new building is complete – it is obvious to the committee that August 31st is not realistic. Regardless of the alternative that is ultimately chosen, there will be an impact on our church programs, especially those outside of our Sunday services. Your patience during this time of uncertainty will be appreciated, especially to those who so willing serve as leaders, teachers and helpers in the delivery of our church programs.

As we prepare to vacate our existing building, arrangements need to be made to store materials and equipment until we are ready to move into the new building. Program leaders have already been asked to go through their material and throw out anything that is dated and/or unusable.

Your committee has begun holding its meetings at the new church (in the garage!) and the excitement, as we examine the progress and envision what is yet to come, is contagious. At the last meeting, we received an offer of a donation of a very large quantity of paving stones. It didn’t take long to envision a large patio outside the Fellowship Hall to enjoy a beautiful country day! If you haven’t already visited the site, we encourage you to do so (but wait until we’ve had several days of sunshine).
