Welcome to Bethel CRC. We are glad that you’re here to worship with us today, especially if you are a guest. It’s our prayer that together we will experience fellowship with God and each other.

This morning we celebrate Lord’s Supper. All who acknowledge their sinfulness, believe in the Lord Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of their sin, and are confessing members in a Christian Church are welcome to partake of the Holy Supper.

Child care is provided downstairs for children under 3 years old.

Coffee and juice will be served downstairs after the morning service.

Call To Worship

*Opening Song SNC14: God, You Call Us To This Place CCL#198856

(Text by Delores Dufner, Tune by Jakob Hintze; OCP Publications, 1993)

God, you call us to this place, where we know your love and grace.

Here your hospitality makes of us one family,

makes our rich diversity richer still in unity,

makes our many voices one, joined in praise with Christ your Son.

Now assembled in Christ’s name, all your mercies to proclaim –

in the hearing of your word, in our prayer through Christ the Lord,

in the ministries we share, learning how to serve with care –

in the Spirit let us be one in faith and unity.

In the water we were born of the Spirit in the Son.

Now a priestly, royal race rich in every gift of grace –

called, forgiven, loved, and freed, for the world we intercede:
gather into the unity all the human family.

REQUESTED ANNOUNCEMENTS

GROCERY STORE CARDS:  The cards are in and should be in your mailboxes if you have ordered this month.  If you were gone or forgot to order, there are some extras available for immediate sale.  Please see Elaine Pruim for availability.  Thanks for your support.

The social committee, Diane Pastoor, Marjan Petter, and Elaine Pruim

HELP NEEDED! To ensure that we are completely moved out of our current building by the end of August, we are having a moving out morning on Saturday, August 16th from 9:00 – noon. If you can assist, you are requested to place your name on the volunteer list in the lower lobby. Please contact Bernie Veltkamp or Andy deBeer if you have any questions.

Saskatoon Christian School Board has approved our request to use the school premises for our worship services after we have moved out of the current church building. In order to have this building vacant by September 1st, our last service here will be on August 24th.

PEWS FOR SALE: The congregation that has purchased this church building is not interested in keeping the pews. The Building Committee is attempting to sell the pews as a whole unit. However, if this is not successful, the pews will be sold on an individual basis. If you are interested in purchasing a pew, the 8 foot pews will sell for $75 each, and the 14 foot pews will sell for $100 each. Please let Bernie Veltkamp know if you are interested and your name will be placed on a list – first come first served.

PASTOR’S NOTE: As you are aware August 24 will be our last day of services in this building. The morning service will be a “special” service filled with joy, celebration, tears, and pain. I am planning on finishing the Catechism that morning with the last couple of LORD’s Day and focusing on the conclusion of the LORD’s Prayer. The afternoon service is going to be a hymn sing. If you have a favourite hymn or song, please let me know.

POSITION AVAILABLE: Covenant
CRC in Edmonton is looking for a full-time Director of Youth and Education. If you are still reading this you will want to know that to fill this position you will be able to relate to young people (as well as adults) and understand the pulse of youth culture. You will have a heart to disciple, mentor, and develop leaders as well as volunteers within the church to assist with youth ministry and education for all ages. You will assist the congregation in its vision and mission as you equip, support and expand our congregation’s education program. You will develop and direct the implementation of programs to reach out and create relationships with the youth with the goal

of enfolding them in the church. Seminary training or equivalent is considered an asset. Should you have questions about Covenant and the position you can contact John Leder, Chair of Council, at the email address below. If you are interested in being part of our ministry team, enjoy equipping others for effective ministry, and desire to see young people grow in Christ-likeness, please apply with resume to John Leder, Chair of Council, john.leder@supremesteel.com.

CRWM INTERNATIONAL PRAYER CONCERNS: Seven people were arrested last month in Yemen for promoting Christianity. Yemeni security forces arrested seven Christians, reportedly including some American citizens.  The group was arrested for promoting Christianity and distributing Bibles.  One of those arrested included Hadni Dohni, also accused of converting to Christianity, which is a capital offence under Islamic law.  More recent reports indicate that the group continues to be held.  Pray that Yemeni authorities will neither mistreat nor torture the Christians and that they will be

released soon; pray that the Spirit will comfort and encourage the group; pray that the voices of moderation will win out over more radical voices to stem religious persecution throughout the country.

WORLD MISSIONS - Finding Peace: In a recent visit to her husband’s Nigerian Muslim village, a shy and quiet Christian woman took a step of courage in sharing how a household can receive peace. The first step? – burning all of the amulets and charms. The second step is asking for forgiveness from Isa Almasihu – Jesus Christ. Please pray for this believer, and that the message she shares will find open hearts.

ORDER OF CANADA: Much concern has been expressed with Dr. Morgentaler’s appointment to this high honour. The Canadian Ministries Office of the CRC commends the resources of the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada on this issue. We encourage concerned CRC members to learn and act by visiting: www.evangelicalfellowship.ca or call 613-233-9868. There is a communication letter from Rev. Bruce Adema on the bulletin board by the door.

Doxology: Our God Reigns

How lovely on the mountains are the feet of him

Who brings good news, good news.

Announcing peace, proclaiming news of happiness,

Our God reigns, our God reigns.

Our God reigns! Our God reigns! Our God reigns! Our God reigns!

He had no stately form, He had no majesty, that we should be drawn

to Him.

    He was despised, and we took no account of Him;

yet now He reigns with the Most High.

Now He reigns, now He reigns, now He reigns with the Most High.

It was our sin and guilt that bruised and wounded Him. It was our sin

that brought Him down.

When we like sheep had gone astray, our Shepherd came and on His

                shoulders bore our shame.

On His shoulders, on His shoulders, on His shoulders He bore our

                        shame.

Meek as a lamb that’s led out to the slaughterhouse

Just as a sheep before its shearer, His life ran down upon the ground

like pouring rain that we might be born again.

That we might be, that we might be, that we might be born again.

Out from the tomb He came with grace and majesty –

He’s alive! He’ s alive!

God loves us so, see here His hands, His feet, His side.

Yes, we know He’s alive.

He’s alive, He’s alive, He’s alive. He is alive.

(repeat 1st verse again)

MOVING PREPARATIONS: Our time in this building is coming to a close very soon. In preparation for our August 31 departure, many things have to be done. Various committees and groups have been notified to begin the process of packing up their supplies. This will begin shortly. Upstairs there is a table of books, mostly Dutch. If you have any interest in taking them, please do so. If not, they will be recycled.

COUNCIL TRAINING: On November 21 and 22 we will be having a council training seminar at the church. Professor Darwin Glassford from Calvin Theological Seminary will be attending to lead the training session. The plan is for Professor Glassford to train youth leaders on Friday night (he is a youth ministry professor) and the elders on Saturday morning. There will also be representatives from Diaconal Ministries Canada who will train deacons on Saturday morning. On Sunday, Professor Glassford will preach. What we need are some people to help in the organization for this weekend: for meals, coffee break, billets, and welcoming. We will be sending invitations to the churches of Classis Alberta North and Alberta South/Saskatchewan and probably to the churches in Winnipeg. This could make for a lot of people who will need places to stay on Friday night. If you are interested in helping to organize this event, please leave a note in Pastor Richard’s box.

PASTOR’S NOTE: The Bodini family is on vacation until July 22. If you require pastoral assistance, please contact one of the elders. See you in a few weeks.

SEA TO SEA WEEK 4: Track the tour live through the Rocky Mountains this week. Every day, a cyclist will carry a GPS tracking unit, leaving a virtual breadcrumb of her or his travels that day. You can even check average and maximum speed and other stats. Click on “live tracking” at www.SeatoSea.org.

I AM

 I was regretting the past
And fearing the future…
Suddenly my Lord was speaking:
“MY NAME IS I AM.”

He paused.
I waited.

He continued,
“When you live in the past,
with its mistakes and regrets,
it is hard. I am not there.
My name is not I was.
When you live in the future,
with its problems and fears,
it is hard. I am not there.
My name is not I will be.
When you live in this moment,
it is not hard.
I am here.
My name is I AM.”

CRWM INTERNATIONAL PRAYER CONCERNS:   G8 Summit Affirms Commitment to Reduce Poverty in Africa – Meeting this week in Japan, the Group of Eight rich nations reaffirmed its commitment to double aid to Africa to $25 billion a year by 2010. G8 countries include Germany, France, Britain, Italy, Japan, the U.S., Canada, and Russia. Rising food and fuel costs around the globe could lead to an additional 105 million people, including 30 million in Africa, falling below the poverty line. Pray that richer nations will be faithful to their commitments to giving aid to the poor; pray for more just trade practices and a commitment to developing sustainable support systems.

CRWRC provided emergency food aid to 1,000 families after Typhoon Frank destroyed crops, homes and businesses across the Philippines on June 23. CRWRC plans to help families rebuild their lives for the long term by distributing seeds and seedlings, and helping reconstruct homes. To make a donation mark your cheques “Philippines Typhoon Frank 2008″ and mail to CRWRC, P.O. Box 5070, STN LCD 1, Burlington, Ontario, L7R 3Y8. Or phone 1-800-730-3490 or donate online at www.crwrc.org

WORLD MISSIONS - Vacation … NOT! While many people enjoy a time of rest and relaxation this summer, a crew of new missionaries, volunteers and interns are hard at work preparing for challenging overseas assignments. This week they will undergo intensive orientation. Add a piece of armour to their gear by remembering them in prayer.

SEA TO SEA WEEK 3: Give thanks to God that His call to care for the weak and powerless is being extended in the public arena through the media and through personal conversations on the Sea to Sea tour. Pray that all who hear may respond in meaningful ways to lift up the needy and stand up for their rights. www.SeatoSea.org

DISABILITY CONCERNS: Free Braille editions of the Heidelberg Catechism Compendium by Y.P. De Jong and of the Blue (1957) Psalter Hymnal available. Supplies limited. Call 1-888-463-0272 to request.

Orders may be placed through Faith Alive at www.faithaliveresources.org or by calling 1-800-333-8300. You will be challenged to reflect and give thanks to God by these thoughtful and interesting presentations!

ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION: The Christian Reformed Churches of Winnipeg will celebrate their 100th anniversary on Nov. 7-9. We praise God for His faithfulness and invite past and present members for a celebration that will include a Friday evening informal gathering, a Saturday “instuif” (games and activities) and a Saturday evening banquet with keynote speaker, Dr. James Schaap. The weekend will culminate with a combined worship service on Sunday. For more information go to http://www.covenantcrc.ca/100thanniversary.htm or contact Ann Halbesma at 204-222-2554.

  • New members signed the form of subscription
  • Art Pruim and Phil Dykstra were elected chair and vice-chair respectively.
  • Alice Sirois tendered her resignation as caretaker effective upon leaving this church building
  • Council granted Pastor Richard’s requests for vacation time and educational leave.

NEW BUILDING UPDATE

It has now been confirmed that Courts of Praise Four Square Gospel Church has purchased the building. Based on recent discussions with them, they would like to take possession at the end of our lease period which is August 31st. Those of you who have been to the site of our new church building are aware that there have been construction delays. The most current obstacle is the completion of the in-floor heating. Until that is completed, the concrete floor cannot be poured and, therefore, no interior work can start. While part of the delay is due to the inaccessibility of the site because of the heavy rain, we are also at the mercy of the company installing the system, competing for a scarce labor pool.

Your committee believes that it must plan for an interim location to hold our church services until such time that the new building is complete – it is obvious to the committee that August 31st is not realistic. Regardless of the alternative that is ultimately chosen, there will be an impact on our church programs, especially those outside of our Sunday services. Your patience during this time of uncertainty will be appreciated, especially to those who so willing serve as leaders, teachers and helpers in the delivery of our church programs.

As we prepare to vacate our existing building, arrangements need to be made to store materials and equipment until we are ready to move into the new building. Program leaders have already been asked to go through their material and throw out anything that is dated and/or unusable.

Your committee has begun holding its meetings at the new church (in the garage!) and the excitement, as we examine the progress and envision what is yet to come, is contagious. At the last meeting, we received an offer of a donation of a very large quantity of paving stones. It didn’t take long to envision a large patio outside the Fellowship Hall to enjoy a beautiful country day! If you haven’t already visited the site, we encourage you to do so (but wait until we’ve had several days of sunshine).

Jo Trew has moved back to Luther Riverside Terrace (her old building on Sask Cres). She is on the special care floor.

Remember those who are struggling with emotional, physical, or spiritual concerns. Those who wrestle with doubt and depression.

For safety and strength for the workers at the new church building and for farmers who have and will continue their big push to working in the fields.

CRWM INTERNATIONAL PRAYER CONCERNS: Millions on the Brink of Starvation – Ethiopia

A recent drought, war with Somalia, and high food prices have pushed millions of

Ethiopians to the brink of starvation. Currently, the World Food Program feeds 8

million people. It is estimated that an additional 4.5 million people will soon need

emergency food aid. Pray that the required food aid will be available and for an end to the war. Donate to the Sea to Sea Ending the Cycle of Poverty cross-country bicycle tour at www.seatosea.org or to the C.R. World Relief Committee at www.crwrc.org.

There’s still time to register for this inspiring event, which takes place July 18-20 in Lombard, Illinois. To register and view detailed conference information, visit www.crhm.org/conference.

PRAYER REQUEST FROM THE BACK TO GOD HOUR: Praise God for providing the needed funds for a new international broadcast ministry center in Campinas, Brazil. Pray that this new ministry center will better equip us to fulfill our mission to let Latin America—and the world—hear of Jesus.

THE BATTLE OF JERICHO: Does it ever feel like your entire life is a fight? That you’re constantly tempted in your weakness, or routinely find yourself defending what you believe in. You are just protecting yourself and your family, or even trying to make the world a better place. But why? Is there a greater purpose to this daily grind? Find out on the July 13 Back to God Hour. Go to www.BacktoGod.net for local stations and times.

*Song (SNC11):  Be Still, For The Presence   CCL# 198856

Text and music by David Evans  1986;   Kingsway’s Thankyou Music)

Be still, for the presence of the Lord, The Holy One, is here.

Come bow before Him now, with reverence and fear.

In Him no sin is found; we stand on holy ground.

Be still, for the presence of the Lord, the Holy One, is here.

Be still, for the glory of the Lord is shining all around.

He burns with holy fire; with splendor He is crowned.

How awesome is the sight, our radiant King of Light!

Be still, for the glory of the Lord is shining all around.

Be still, for the power of the Lord is moving in this place.

He comes to cleanse and heal, to minister His grace.

No work too hard for Him; in faith receive from Him.

Be still, for the power of the Lord is moving in this place.
